Chocolate Coconut Chews



Chocolate Coconut Chews
½ C shortening
6 T granulated sugar
6 T brown sugar
1 egg
½ t vanilla
¼ t water
1 C plus 2 T flour
½ t baking soda
½ t salt
½ C coconut
1 C chocolate chips
Cream together shortening and sugars; add egg, vanilla, and water. Combine flour, soda and salt. Combine egg mixture and flour mixture. Add coconut and chocolate chips. Blend thoroughly. Spread into 9 by 9 inch pan. Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes. Cool in pan. Cut into squares.
These turned out very tasty.

It seemed peculiar to bother with such a tiny amount of water. The cookbook says to use 9 by 13 inch pan and bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes.
